Day 161 - Weird Bug
I have no idea what this is, but it was on my garage door when I got home yesterday. From the front, it looks like it's smiling at you.
UPDATE: The folks at the University of Kentucky Department of Entomology say it's a Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio Troilus) and pointed me to this page. This caterpillar is usually bright green but turns yellow for only a few days before it pupates. Its false eyespots and other markings help protect it by making it look like a small snake to predators (especially when it is green).

Day 148 - The Last Mimzy
Literally, this was the last one they had at any of the area Wal-Marts (I had checked at four others before finding this one). The Wal-Mart guy said he'd hold it for me for two hours because it was the last one ... two and a half hours later, I get to the store right as he's placing it back on the shelf.
Did some heavy catch-up blogging today because it's been really hectic lately.

Day 138 - Buried
Day 137 - Moon Over the Ocean
As I've said before, shooting the moon is tricky, because it's actually quite bright since it's just reflected sunlight. In this photo, I wanted to capture the details the moonlight gave to the water below and the clouds around it. I could have done different exposures, then combined them into one photo to get the moon detail, but thought I'd just go ahead and post the one pic as I shot it with the moon as a big washed out ball. I still think the light on the water is neat, and the white of the waves breaking in the lower left. To get that out of what was pretty much complete darkness, I used a 30-second exposure at f8 with an ASA of 400.
Day 136 - Dinner scenery
We had dinner at this place on the inlet side of the waterfront. The first photo is light hitting the dock ... the second is boats along the waterway. It's actually much darker than it looks in the second photo, but I used a three-second exposure to capture the light. The water was kind of choppy, but the long exposure gave it a misty look.
