Day 166 - Reflection

The sunrise reflecting off the water in our pool this morning.

Day 165 - Reece

I shot this Monday while playing around with using a long sync cord on my hotshoe flash, and putting inside a soft box that sits to the left. I have a remote coming soon, which will make the sync cord obsolete ... I hope.

Day 164 - Growth Chart

They grow up so fast ... even faster when Kenzie does her own measuring. This is Saturday's image.

Day 163 - Caterpillar Update

Here's an update on the Sagebrush Swallowtail Caterpillar that's found a home on my garage door. He has started to pupate, so we're going to leave him alone and watch the progress. Here's how he looked on Saturday.

Day 162 - Homer J.

I shot this on Friday in honor of The Simpsons Movie opening in theaters. If you're a fan, you should go see the film.

Day 161 - Weird Bug

I have no idea what this is, but it was on my garage door when I got home yesterday. From the front, it looks like it's smiling at you.

UPDATE: The folks at the University of Kentucky Department of Entomology say it's a Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio Troilus) and pointed me to this page. This caterpillar is usually bright green but turns yellow for only a few days before it pupates. Its false eyespots and other markings help protect it by making it look like a small snake to predators (especially when it is green).

Day 160 - Little Frogs

These are Kenzie's little frogs she got when we went to the beach.

Day 159 - Cone Flower

We have a lot of these in our yard. They're coming up really nice.

Day 158 - No Photo

Completely forgot to take a picture of anything Monday.

Day 157 - Mo' Medals

On Sunday, the same group took the gold in the freestyle relay.

Day 156 - Bluegrass State Games

The top photo is Kenzie doing the backstroke. The medley relay team she was part of won the gold medal in her age group.

Day 155 - Bedtime Stories

I can't believe we have one child that's old enough to read bedtime stories to our other child. They grow up so fast. This is Friday's photo

Day 154 - Grimm Tales

We went to a bookstore the other night, and I showed this to Kenzie thinking she would simply shrug it off (a big, thick book with no pictures, c'mon). But she loved it, and has spent the past couple of days reading the stories out of it.

Day 153 - Mouse Switcher

I'm a pretty hardcore Mac user, but today I switched. Not from a Mac (I haven't lost my mind) but just away from the Apple brand mouse to a normal Logitech wireless mouse. I just decided it was time to take the plunge for the extra buttons.

Day 152 - Laundry Day

Actually, every day needs to be laundry day at our house, but it's usually just whenever we have time.

Day 151 - Reece

This was shot holding the camera directly overhead, and ended up upside down in the viewfinder, but I thought it looked more interesting that way, so I left it.

Day 150 - More Beetles

Japanese beetles eating away on our flowers.

Day 149 - Biker Chick

Kenzie and her bicycle in our church parking lot. She didn't leave all those skid marks in the background, they were already there ... I swear.

Day 148 - The Last Mimzy

Literally, this was the last one they had at any of the area Wal-Marts (I had checked at four others before finding this one). The Wal-Mart guy said he'd hold it for me for two hours because it was the last one ... two and a half hours later, I get to the store right as he's placing it back on the shelf.

Did some heavy catch-up blogging today because it's been really hectic lately.

Day 147 - Black and White Sky

Day 146 - Tobacco Field

Day 145 - Snack Time

Reece thoroughly enjoyed the snacks at VBS. He did great this week as far as going to his class and staying with his group.

Day 144 - VBS baby

Vacation Bible School started today. Here's a cute pic from the baby class.

Day 143 - VBS crafts

Lisa testing the crafts for Vacation Bible School.

Day 142 - The Trip Home

The first shot is the bridge out of Emerald Isle back to the mainland. The second is Pilot Mountain in North Carolina.

Day 141 - Big Waves

The ocean was a little rough on Friday, but it didn't seem to bother Kenzie.

Day 140 - Lazy Reece

Taking it easy on the beach, having someone else hold your drink for you. Must be the life.

Day 138 - Buried

It's amazing what some people leave lying around the beach.

This is Tuesday's photo, and I've been playing a lot of catch up today on getting photos posted. It was a busy week leading up to vacation.

Day 137 - Moon Over the Ocean

As I've said before, shooting the moon is tricky, because it's actually quite bright since it's just reflected sunlight. In this photo, I wanted to capture the details the moonlight gave to the water below and the clouds around it. I could have done different exposures, then combined them into one photo to get the moon detail, but thought I'd just go ahead and post the one pic as I shot it with the moon as a big washed out ball. I still think the light on the water is neat, and the white of the waves breaking in the lower left. To get that out of what was pretty much complete darkness, I used a 30-second exposure at f8 with an ASA of 400.

Day 136 - Dinner scenery

We had dinner at this place on the inlet side of the waterfront. The first photo is light hitting the dock ... the second is boats along the waterway. It's actually much darker than it looks in the second photo, but I used a three-second exposure to capture the light. The water was kind of choppy, but the long exposure gave it a misty look.

Day 135 - First Day at the Beach

Emerald Isle, southern part of the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

Day 134 - Tunnel Vision

I guess this would technically be a Saturday pic instead of Friday since it was taken at about 3 a.m., but to me, it was still Friday. It's in the tunnel on I-77 that is at the West Virginia-Virginia state line. I thought playing with the camera might help keep me awake.

Day 133 - New Travel Mug
