Day 287 - Jet Streak

You'll notice I've done more than a week's worth of posts today. I kinda let myself get way behind in my posting again, partly from being busy and partly from my laptop being out for repairs for a few days see this post. Anyhow, this photo from yesterday catches me up again, and I'll try to keep up better.

This is from Monday. It's a portion of my laptop keyboard, which is significant because I just last week got my laptop back from Apple after they did some repairs. Mine had a factory defect involving one of the RAM slots that they fixed for free despite me having the computer for more than three years. Also, to my surprise, they even replaced the keyboard after my son had completely torn off my F2 key.

I'd had the PowerBook for so long, I didn't expect them to do anything about my problems, but they went above and beyond, and that's rare these days.

The kids had a good time playing in Central Park in Ashland yesterday.

Day 275 - Cow Skull

Part of the decor at a restaurant we were at on Saturday. I like the way the shadow falls on the otherwise empty wall.

A portrait I did for someone in Ashland's Central Park on Friday. The leaves there are really nice right now.

Day 273 - MRI Unit

I had to take photos Thursday of a mobile MRI unit, so I tried to do something a little different with the lighting. I used two Nikon SB-24s fired with remotes. The first one is just inside of the door where the MRI unit is (I couldn't get too close because the magnet was on) bounced off the ceiling, and the other is behind the computer monitor with a blue gel to give some color to the scene. The flashes were on the lowest power setting possible to try and get the rest of the scene lit with the ambient lighting. It didn't turn out too bad.

This bug was on my car window as I left work last night. It was pretty dark out, so the photos a bit blurry.

Day 269 - Classic Leaf

From Sunday. We were back at the University of Charleston for another swim meet.

Day 268 - Wedding Cake

I shot a wedding on Saturday, and tried to do something a little different with the cake photos. I think these turned out nice. Both have a Nikon SB-24 with a homemade foam paper snoot as the main light from the upper left, and the first shot has a second SB-24 with a red gel on the background.

Day 267 - Abstract Photography

Sometimes it's fun to try something different. I took this shot today by setting the camera shutter to be open for about .3 seconds, then spun around in my office chair and clicked. This is the result, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what all the little blue squares that look like spots of light come from.

Day 266 - Pink Smoke

Shot this while coming over the bridge from Ohio into Ashland, Ky. It's a big plume of pinkish smoke drifting over the Ohio River from Kentucky into the Ironton area. The photo really doesn't do it much justice. It was just a quick grab from out the car window, but the cloud of smoke or whatever was massive. Click on the photo for a much larger version.

Day 264 - Blue Skies

Really blue sky out on Tuesday, so I grabbed this shot, which is just outside the building where I work looking straight up. The second shot is of one of the fall trees. The colors are starting to dwindle, but there are still a few trees that look nice.

Over of my other blog I did a post about writing with light for a photo. The hard part when trying to make something legible is remembering that the image is reversed and everything is backwards. I decided with this one to take the easy way out and just write normally and flip the photo.
